Back Pain Journey : Day 1

Last night I used one of the tricks to be pain free. I rolled a towel up and put under the curve of my spine, then I laid flat on my back to sleep. This makes it more comfortable for my cats, as Bitty likes to lay next to my knees between my legs, and Baata likes to lay on my belly all stretched out.

It doesn't make it more comfortable for me. I'm not used to sleeping on my back for starters. I kept wanting to turn on my side, but there was this hard mass beneath my back.

Maybe the towel was too big? I will use a smaller one tonight. My back pain was a little less upon waking, though, so maybe it did help? Everything I have read says the herniated disk can take 1-6 months to heal naturally - this is going to be a process! When I went to sleep, my back hurt so bad that my right hip was also hurting. I wanted to take some ibuprofen to ease the pain, but resisted, and was able to sleep without it. I would say my pain scale today is a 2, which is totally manageable. Maybe the towel helped. My morning pain is usually around a 4-5.

I scrapped my corset pattern that I made the night before last after sewing the "mock-up" together and it looking AWFUL! None of the sides matched up right. I didn't have a melt down, though. I just got more paper out and started again from the beginning drawing out my own pattern. It's hard work! I started getting tired around 9:30, so I went to bed. I really wanted to stay up and keep at it with the pattern, but I didn't want to make mistakes because I was so tired.

Although weight loss isn't my primary goal, I'm going to keep track of it still. It's been such a big part of my life... my struggle with my weight. I just can't let it go entirely....

Friday : Back Strengthening Yoga on HULU
Saturday : 30-45 minutes of walking/jogging in the AM
Sunday : Windsor Pilates

    I always start off on my back, but end up on my side too. Hope you get more sleep tonight and feel even better in the morning.

    I can't sleep on my back either!! I've always slept on my side. Sometimes i'll roll onto my back, but i can't start that way.

    I hope u feel more better. My mom had this situation and she used to sleep on hard surface without any support (on wood surface). I hope that works for you. Take Care and have a wonderful Day

    Glad the towel made your back pain a little better today!! It's a slow process but you can do it!!

    I find your determination very admirable both with dealing with your back pain issue as well as how you handle starting over with your corset! : ) I hope a smaller towel proves more comfortable for you tonight. And congrats on a morning pain scale of 2 ; ) I hope that means it IS working! Just remember to be careful HOW you move. Avoid twists, bending at the hips, etc. Even when it starts to feel better a move like that can bring it right back which is why that 1-6 months time frame happens. We often re-injure our disc by aggravating it with a bad move. I personally can't remember not to take a step backwards before turning around... and that move sucks! lol Such a small thing we don't think about until it causes a sudden sharp pain at the swollen disc. I'm keeping you in my thoughts! Good luck with the corset!! emoticon
