Today's Surprise!

Today when I went to water my seeds, I found a potful of little plants that had popped up overnight!!! Hooray. We're on the way to having fresh greens. I hurried to buy screen so that they could be protected from the grasshoppers, which are still here in swarms--about 2 inches long! Now I'm eager to see how long it takes the others to come up. Maybe I'll get round 2 planted tonight for more variety. Want to join me??

I love the miracle of watching little seeds grow into baby plants! I cheated and bought starts from the nursery, but my fall garden is all planted. I have 2 varieties of lettuce, kale, broccoli and cauliflower. I have never planted this time of year before, so I am excited to see how it goes! Have a wonderful day!

    Way to go!

I use screen to protect from grasshoppers, too! I have some old aluminum screen strips that I folded several years ago into kind of a tented shape....an inverted "V" with 1/2" feet standing about 6" tall at the top of the V. Those have been invaluable through the past couple of years. I'm using them now. Those little seedlings we're taking such care of now will soon be hearty and hardy plants that we'll be enjoying all winter long!
