Good Eats in the Middle East

Wednesday, September 26, 2012

While on our recent vacation, we spent five days in the home of friends in Turkey. They live in a small town on the Anatolian Plateau. Our hostess fixed wonderful meals for us with fresh fruits and vegetables from her garden. Look and enjoy.
Two views of the same meal!

Rice Pilaf, fresh tomatoes and onions, Beans with wonderful sauce.

Three salads awaiting the grilled lamb

Here's the lamb served on a bread platter

Stuffed red and green peppers, tomatoes and eggplant waiting to be served

Dolmas (stuffed food) with yogurt soup

Fruit from the imam's garden

Dr. Oz is always telling us how healthy a Mediterannean diet is and he is origionally from Turkey and should know. That meal looks like it was not only delicious but also very good for you. What a wonderful trip you must have had. emoticon

Food from the Middle East is really healthy. It's always refreshing to see real, whole food made into meals. We're so used to processed foods here in the U.S. (Think of even the typical Thanksgiving meal & what goes into that.) I used to frequent a Lebanese restaurant in another U.S. city when I used to live there. I always felt like my insides were cleaner after a meal there.

: )
Enjoy your time with friends, your vacation & your food (always)!
