Shot Reaction

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

Last Friday I got my pneumonia shot which I reacted to all weekend with heat, swelling, and big red welts. Monday I got my flue shot in the other arm, and reacted to it also! Within 6 hrs I was coughing, sneezing, stuffed up, and my eyes were red, swollen, burning, and itching. I had to go home from work at lunch. I had taken a Benedryl, but it did nothing. I took my son's Alkaseltzer cough and cold. When I went to bed, I couldn't breath at all through my nose. When I woke up, I felt almost normal. Am going back to work tonight. Weird, but am gad I only have sore arms today!!!

Have to admit I admire your bravery! I'm a world-class wimp when it comes to shots. When I went away to college, I told them all my shots were up to date but my doctor's office had burned down and all the records were lost! (untrue)

I'm considering a shingles shot, but I keep putting it off!

I no longer get the flu shot...every time I got the shot, I got the full-blown flu right after. My husband, too, and his disability is why the docs insisted we should both get it! Imagine being a caregiver, and both you and your disabled spouse go down with the real flu at the same time within a week of getting the flu shot!!!!! No thanks.

Some people do have reactions to those shots. I had both shots the same day in different arms. My flu shot didn't bother me. The arm where I had the pneumonia shot was sore, but I didn't have the side effects that you experienced. I'm glad that you are better.

Ew. Way awful. I've stayed away from those shots for years, but at this years physical, my MD talked me into it (both shots same day) .

Reason I stayed away from them was because of reactions like yours. This time around no reaction. So sorry it happened to you. emoticon

After all that you'd better not get the flu or pneumonia...

I hope things go well with you.
