Feeling Fit Friends Weekly Challenge: Try New Freggies

Monday, September 24, 2012

This is a fun one, suggested by a team member. Try new freggies!

After a church luncheon yesterday feeling full but not stuffed, I had the opportunity to go to Sprouts Market. They had some super bargains on produce as they always do, but I was in search of something I hadn't tried yet, or at least in the recent past.

One thing I chose was kohlrabi. I'd heard of it. It was one of the few veg I hadnt tried, so I'm going to give it a go making a slaw with it. Very fresh apple, kohlrabi, red wine vinegar and a few other ingredients.

Another choice was bok choy. There is a stir-fry in the near future featuring this veg.

The research revealed that both are rich in nutrients. I'll have to come back with the taste results.

We add Kohlrabi juliennes to salad or make a stew of the stem with light mustard and sesame seasoning.

I love this challenge!

I love both of those! Have you ever tried Romanesco? That was a new veggie to me a few years ago and I love it. It's only available here where I am for about 2 months a year, in the fall.
