Getting back on track

Sunday, September 23, 2012

Just as I expected, keeping a workout routine and sticking to a healthy diet is much harder now that I'm working. I've been walking 6 miles every Saturday and doing something extra once during the week, which is why I've only lost 3 lbs over the last month.

So...to give myself some extra motivation I've signed up to run the Race For the Cure 5K five weeks from now. I can run a mile and a half without stopping now but it will take some training to be able to run over 3 miles straight.

I can do this!!!!

Never been a runner, yet used to speed walk so that 5K is within your sights, it's not the time that counts - it's what you do and so what if you walk in spots. (I have friends that are super athletes but can't time themselves out of a paper bag but they do it anyway because they like it)

Look for the non scale victories, the first is that you are back on track!

3 lbs lost in the last month may not set any records, but it is progress. So long as you keep making the effort, you are still on the right track. Every pound you rid yourself of is a small victory, so be proud of what you have done.

Best of luck with the 5k, I'm sure you will do awesome!

Good luck! Working consumes all of your time and zaps your energy! From your post, it sounds like you haven't been working that long. Give yourself and your body time to adjust, and then slowly work in exercise time; 5-10 minutes at first, then gradually build up.

Good luck on the 5K! I haven't got the guts up yet to try a real race!

I am a fan of anyone who chooses to run; I don't. Partly it's my age; partly it's my knees which are arthritic. At any rate, I am thrilled that you are able to do that and also willing to do that.

Work does tend to interfere with the rest of our lives--but it seems to be a necessary evil! You'll work it out. In the meantime, your Spark friends are here to cheer you on and to support you on your journey.
