How many calories in that gourmet cupcake?

Sunday, September 23, 2012

Before starting the BLC20 (Biggest Loser Challenge), I’ve been indulging in gourmet cupcakes. These gourmet cupcakes stores have been popping up everywhere the past couple of years.

I’ve been trying to find the nutritional information with very little success. I wonder why?

Myfitness pal has a couple entries:
Red Velvet Cupcake with Cream Cheese Frosting – Calories 400
Vanilla Stuffed Cupcake – Calories 460

I couldn’t’ find any nutrition info for my favorite Somoa.

I did find a blog that covered Bakery Cupcakes, so I’m going with that info:

Calories: 585
Total Fat: 20 grams
Saturated Fat: 12 grams
What you get: Just one of these contains more than half the recommend daily saturated fat limit.

To burn this cupcake off, I would have to:
- Spend 50 minutes on the torture trainer (arc trainer) emoticon

- Walk for 2 hours and 15 minutes emoticon

Hmmmm….Later gourmet cupcakes, you're not worth it! emoticon

Thank-you for sharing the info. I had heard long time ago that DD muffins were fairly high in sodium which is OK for me but not for most. I am thinking about their fat content, even the 'low-fat' muffins, & wondering what those fat contents are.

You've just shifted my thinking! Now when I really want one of those "goodies" that will really set me back, I need to convert it into what I have to do to burn it off. The momentary satisfaction any food can give may not be worth the real price I would need to pay!

After a while you will loose that desire for the fat and the sugar.

You don't need them! There are other yummy things to eat that won't bust your calorie budget.

Sometimes I think "they" conspire to derail us. :) Good finding out so you can avoid it in the future (except for every now and then).

I went through a gourmet cupcake phase too! I love me a good cupcake with the icing piled high. It would be nothing for me to stop and get four thinking I'd share with the family and I'd end up shoving my pie hole with 2 of them in the 15 min drive home. I have been gourmet cupcake free for well over a year now. Thanks for your blog which reminds me to keep steering clear of my favorite bakery.

Looking at how high that frosting is, no doubt it's at least 500 calories. My homemade ones run 300 or so a cupcake and that's just with one swirl of frosting on top.

That cupcake looks amazing, but agree with all that saturated fat it is not worth it. Maybe you could have one once a year or something and make it really special.

I love fried clams but I know they are not good for me so I have them only twice a year. Once to kick of summer and once at the end of summer. I think about how good they are the rest of the year so it makes them even better when I do get to have them. I don't feel guilty and I enjoy them too because I know they were a planned cheat.

I guess part of the battle is picking the things that you really want and making it a special treat now and then. Figuring out the things that are not worth it and letting them go is a good way to stay on track.

I'm having that quote in my head: Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels. Sorry but those cupcakes are brutal! I would be afraid to even look at them!

I found one sight that had our local cupcake store's cupcakes at 800 calories!!! Yikes, they have become a once in awhile indulgence, and then I am even sharing one, because they are soooooo rich!!
