My favorite meal out! YIKES

Saturday, September 22, 2012

Over at BLC ROund 20 we have homework and the homework was to find out what was actually in your favorite meal. I love Chipotle. I knew before I did my nutritional homework that it was not good for you, but seeing it on paper, I have given it up for good. I can make a much better choice.

Here it is: Brace yourself if you too eat here:

Look at the sodium content in this thing WOW! I can't believe I actually put this stuff in my body. If I were ever to eat this again I would have to walk for 27 miles and it would take approximately 6.75 hours to complete it. This is so not worth it.

I have an alternate to this burrito that I once had a love for.

Grilled chicken - seasoned with salt and pepper and a little bit of garlic powder.
Black beans made at home seasoned with fresh onions and fresh garlic
whole wheat tortilla
cheese shredded

I love your at home version! I once had a once a week habit at Chipotle, I always had the Burrito Bowl.

Your home version sounds much better all around! Plus no line! LOL Do you use dried black beans or canned?

At least with Chipotle Grill, you know you aren't getting hormones and antibiotics in the meat! I do eat there very occasionally, but I can only eat 1/3 to 1/2 the meal at the most. And, I get the bowl not the burrito. I LOVE that they have the calorie count up on the board with all the ingredients. Still, that sodium content does make this a meal a person should definitely eat only occasionally! (and NEVER get the chips!!!)

Wow, the sodium in this is almost as scary as the saturated fat in my beloved chunky monkey. Once I started readingn labels I just could not bring myself to eat it again. If I'm really craving it like you I make an at home fix that tastes good and it much more healthy. I always say to Brian I feel bad for people that don't know better because sometimes they think something is healthy and it's so bad.

    Glad you did your homework!

There is no escaping the sodium but there are better options at Chipotle. But it involves skipping the burrito and rice, no cheese, sour cream, guac or chips. And well let's be honest, once you get rid of all of that what's the point?!

OH and FYI there is more than one serving in a bag of their chips!
