Vitamin D deficient. Also, Lexapro

Saturday, September 22, 2012

It seems like every 3 months or so something goes wrong and I need medical intervention, lol

The flavor of the month: I was diagnosed as vitamin D deficient earlier this month. I am also still dealing with anemia from my female problems, which were both making me feel terrible. I am now taking vitamin D and iron supplements and I've stopped taking contraception altogether which seems to have solved the female issue (which was likely hormonal).

Also, my doctor put me on lexapro for my anxiety and it seems to be REALLY helping a lot. I didn't even realize the extent to which my mental health was suffering, but I definitely feel a lot happier and better able to cope with stress. ANNNND I don't feel the crazy cravings I used to -- I am eating much less food and feeling more satisfied.

Basically -- I feel 500x better than I have in a long time!!!

I went running today and it was just the most amazing feeling... I feel stronger, I have more stamina, and my heart rate doesn't spike as high as it used to. Plus, it was just plain fun. I have missed running SO MUCH, and doing it for the first time in a long while made me feel like I was meeting with a long lost friend -- it seemed normal, like an old routine that I can easily fall back into. I will be doing it 3x a week from now until forever.

I feel great!

You've come back! Glad to see you are running! "Spark's 5k Your Way" training plan is 3 times a week! *hint hint!* Or if you've done that already, the 10k training is 3 times a week as well! *hint hint*

Vitamin D is HUGE...I was not even registering as having any vitamin D, in the summer months I take 2000IUs daily. In the fall/winter I kick up to 10k/day, it helps SO much with my depression and energy levels it's great.

Baby bella (Crimini) mushrooms are really high in vitamin D. Also, most cold-water fish has a lot of vitamin D, too.

    I'm glad you're doing better!

SO glad your issues are being sorted out. I have been through the 3 month medical interventions also... and eventually they piece it all together and BAM you start to feel so much better. I am so glad you found your "friend" this morning on your run. Don'tcha just love it when that happens? :)

Glad to see ya back up and running!! I suffer from vitamin D, iron & B12, deficiencies and anxiety/depression and stopped taking all my meds. Some because I dont have health insurance and some just because I dont want to be all medicated up and I have been on a multivitamin but it only takes the edge off.. I have recently been contemplating getting back on all of them just because like you, you feel SO MUCH more energized. I just keep hoping things change for me as I lose more weight and get ahold of my eating habits (eating more of the good stuffs)..

My doc once asked me if I lived in a cave because my Vitamin D was so low! Yikes. As we women age, it's especially important to make sure we get our D. Good on you for taking care of your health. It's amazing what a difference these seemingly little things can make. B12 is another one that many women are deficient in, and if you get enough (via food or a supplement), you will notice a big improvement in mood and energy level.
