Graduation pictures/updates

Saturday, September 22, 2012

We are traveling back from my son, Nate's, graduation from Army bootcamp. We were in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri and it was such a beautiful time! My husband dropped me and 3 of the kids at my parents [KC] on Saturday and then he traveled south, continued working, and finally met up with Nate on Wednesday morning. VERY emotionally charged reunion! They both burst into tears!!!

Nate and my husband

We arrived Wednesday afternoon and had such a great family day! Eating out, enjoying the hotel pool, and catching up with our son.

We returned him back to the base at 4:30 and roll call was at 5:00. SO, SO special to hear all their names being called out and watching them march back for chow. The drill sergeant said, "This concludes family day, your soldiers will now march to chow, and then we will tuck them in for the night." ha! SO sweet!!!

The next day was graduation at 9:00 a.m. or 0900! emoticon

Some graduation pictures:

Jonathan graduates from high school in December and then he will follow in Nate's footsteps to join the National Guard and head for bootcamp in January.

When we were at the hotel, there was only 1 yogurt left and Sammy took it. When the woman behind him was SO disappointed, he gave her his yogurt! For his sacrifice, the hotel made a big deal and gave him some WONDERFUL goodies!!! So sweet! emoticon

Caught Sammy sucking his thumb! We didn't think he did this anymore! hehe

This is how Jonathan slept in the hotel because of my husband's snoring:

We just had a FABULOUS time and we are now driving back to Wisconsin.

An update about the special diet that I'm on right now, and doing with my mother, is in order. We are almost done with our 5th week and have 3 more weeks until we move to phase 2. We are doing great! I DEFINITELY am ready to get back to eating more carbs! But it's been a good detox and rest for our pancreas and liver. We both are going for our labs on October 15th [and weighing that day, as well] so I'm excited to see what the results will turn up, especially for my mother. Also, I'll be getting my thyroid levels checked and I kind of have a feeling they aren't right which may be part of the reason I've had trouble maintaining my weight.

Okay, well that's about it for today. Love to all my friends! {{{{huge hugs}}}

Susan

Thanks for sharing! It gave me memories of when my younger brother graduated from basic training in the Navy. The USO took such good care of us! We had part of a day with him and literally RAN through the San Diego zoo. The next day he shipped out for advanced schooling. As I know from personal experience, when a family member serves, the entire family serves, so emoticon for your service!

Nate is so grown up and looks fabulous in his military uniform. I grew up loving a man in uniform as my papa was a Marine and now retired letter carrier. I can see why you’re so proud of Nate. Terrific family photos! Wait until you give Sammy a camera and he catches you in some “pay back” position (perhaps he and Jonathan won’t see this blog – smile, smile – although precious is the word that comes to my mind when I see children sleeping). Hoping you get good reports from your doctor. Hug, hug -- Evelyn

Wow! What a lot of memories those photos bring... my son graduated from Ft. Leonard Wood for his basic, before heading to Ft. Sam Houston for his AIT... six years back. Now we're counting out the months remaining in his second deployment.

By the way, have several Army Reserve / Nov. 5th family friends up there in Wisconsin, you might just trip over them if your son serves with any of those units.

Great people, all! Blessings and prayers for your family, your new minted soldier, and prayers for all those few who put on the uniform and pledge themselves to our service.

God Bless your son, Nate, for his service, and to Jonathan for planning to join the Guard when he graduates. And may He who holds us and Heaven & Earth in His hands be with you and your family.

Glad you are getting your thyroid checked, I am also due to get mine soon. I think it really ought to be checked more frequently than once a year for those who are losing, since we know the metabolism rate changes with significant weight changes. emoticon emoticon

Congrats on Nate's Graduation. Hearing about Ft. Leonard Wood brings back memories of when my friend and I were at Silver Dollar City when we were 15 or 16 and met some recent Boot Camp graduates and had such a crush on those men in uniform! Ha Ha Fortunately they were gentlemen and spend the day riding the roller coaster with us then sent us on our way.
