Intermittent Fasting. It's actually working!

Saturday, September 22, 2012

I've been doing this for 6 days. I'm already down approximately 6 pounds. The scale hadn't moved in over a year. My calories are in the same range and so are my macros. When I look back to when the "trouble" began, I wonder now if it wasn't the "clean eating" as outlined by Tosca Reno. Eating 5-6 small meals per day maybe made my metabolism a little bit lazy???
In fact, I have dropped weight so quickly this week that I may even have to add some calories back in.
I'm really glad I've kept track of my calories for the last four years. Now it's much easier to figure out exactly what's going on.

My meals and daily routine look something like this:

Workout on empty stomach
Protein shake with a few berries
Lunch is two poached eggs on rye and sunflower seed bread with spinach and tomatoes
Snack is Greek yogurt with small amount of berries
(until dinner time my calories usually total between 400-500)
Dinner AND dessert total about 1000 calories. I have no problem eating that much food at one sitting! I eat what and how much I want. All my food is clean, homemade, and unprocessed. No sugar at all.
Total daily calories are between 1400-1600.

The idea is not to starve all day long, but to eat just enough to sustain energy levels.
So, this throws the calories IN, calories OUT formula completely out the window, doesn't it...

Here's a great article on IF

Here's the IF book I read

Fingers crossed that this keeps working. I have a good feeling about this.

Are you still IF'ing? How has it affected your PCOS symptoms? I want to try IF'ing but am worried about the consequences it could have for my hormones, they are already out of balance so I am scared they will get worse.

Oh wow!!! hello Fit Artist , I'm Kitty...
I am stunned, I have had insulin resistance/pcos, for.. 15 years now and not found a way to control my diet..infact I got frustrated this week.. and I stopped counting calories and eating what normal people eat - for 8 days and put on 3kgs.. (6.5lbs) ALL the weight I lost in my 6 months at spark. sigh. how unfair is that.
I can't wait to read this book/article.. thank you SO SO SO much for sharing this. I would DO ANYTHING to figure out what works for me :D
I wish you much success with it =) emoticon

what you just outlined is very near to what is working for me (except for the last week of restaurant eating and guests....). So agree with the empty stomach for exercise in the morning.

Hope it keeps working for you!

Where is the IF in your plan?

Btw, I have had success with calorie cycling and never had success with eating 'small meals'.

I do like the concept . Caloric cycling has also worked for me. Burn Fat Feed Muscle has a great group for this.
