Did you know that the typical fast food strawberry
milkshake contains 59 ingredients, including 40
different chemicals, but does not contain any
strawberries or milk?

    I recently read about this very same thing. Scary and sad at the same time. It's pathetic anymore what is considered "food" out there. I recently yelled at my husband for getting margarine packets at the salad bar in a restaurant. I told him he should get butter instead, at least it's real ingredients and in my opinion, healthier for you despite the higher fat and calories. I told him to read the ingredient list for the margarine, he started reading, made a face and said no thanks.

    Debby, sounds like you wouldn't need to worry about the lactose in a fast food milkshake anymore!!

    Don't get me on my favorite rant!! It is doubtful that more that 5% of the processed, packaged, manufactured food in our groceries has much of the real ingredients you'd expect to be there. And the food additive corporations feel entitled to add the additives to our food supply as if we're too stupid to realize we're being duped.

    I'm going to make my own grape salad with brown rice I cooked from grain with added cinnamon and coconut oil. To that I will add yogurt, honey, and red and green grapes. That's it. No chemicals. No enriched products. No artificial flavors are needed.

    What are we going to do about this? I can't figure it out, except just keep on buying whole food and cooking it myself.

    But I'm a child of the sixties. I feel like I should try something. If I disappear . . .

    I am lactose intolerant so haven't had a milk shake in years. Sadly, though, the additives you describe are in sooooo much of our foods. Scary stuff.

    Yuck and just plain scary. You really have to wonder what all these artificial ingredients that are in foods will do to us in the long run. Another thing is too, that the fast food places advertise milkshakes to kids, and they have no idea what they're eating, they really should be ashamed of their selves.

    Why does this not surprise me. And even if you bought Strawberry flavoured ice cream, it is more chemical that real ingredients.
