Madness marathon!

Saturday, September 22, 2012

I did it, I did it, I did ALL OF IT!

Now, I did something I shouldn't have done to give me the opportunity to do it, but I don't feel the least bit bad.

I called in injured to work (I told my manager I had badly pulled my shoulder at the gym and couldn't come in to work) so I could get tonight off. What did I do with myself? Well, my instructor mentioned in class on Thursday an event that was being done by the dojo, which I decided as soon as I heard about it that I needed to take part in. "12 Hour Muay Thai Madness Marathon" from 6pm - 6am. And I stayed for the entire damn thing. It did turn into an 11 hour marathon, as the last hour was supposed to be a run on the lakefront while the sun was coming up. However, it started to pour about two hours before that, so it got cancelled.

This was an incredible experience, and I'm so glad I took the night off even if my manager is mad at me. In the entire night, there was only just over two hours that were not spent training (An hour for lunch/dinner/food consumption as they provided thai food for us, 45 minute meditation after we ate, and two 15 minute breaks between sessions). I had no idea what to expect when I decided I needed to go, I just knew it was going to be insane. I have seen noticeable improvement in pretty much everything to do with my muay thai from this night alone, and it was really awesome to be able to learn from different teachers. I've only ever worked with my one instructor, since he's the one that does all the day classes at the location I go to, and I loved the new techniques and feedback I got by being around new teachers. I even got some very positive feedback from the thai master, which made me stupid proud of myself. ha.

I am stupidly exhausted and insanely wired all at the same time right now. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to make it through the entire night, due to the lack of sleep and previous days happenings (I only got about three hours sleep before I got up at 9pm for work. I worked 11pm - 7am, then went to a training session at the gym from 8am - 9am. I finally got home around 10am, ate some food, and mucked around a bit. Took an hour long nap, then got ready and headed down to the dojo). But, I did it damnit. I hurt in every possible place that I could hurt, but it's a very good pain. That shower when I got home though... probably the best thing in my life. Except maybe passing by a 24 hour convenience store after I left and getting a banana and an apple. So good.

As for now, I should -probably- go to bed before I faceplant my keyboard.

That sounds like an incredible experience! You must be in super shape, to have made it through the night, especially on so little sleep. I probably couldn't have made it even one hour! Hopefully one day I'll have even half the stamina, endurance and willpower that you have. Kudos to you!
