Sunfair parade in Yakima, WA canceled for the first time in 51 years!!!

Saturday, September 22, 2012

The Sunfair parade they have every year in Yakima WA to start off the county fair here has been canceled for the first time in 51 years due to the heavy smoke in the air because of all the fires around the state. There is a thick covering all over the Yakima Valley and other parts of the state. Several fires are out of control. They are advising people who have breathing problems and such to stay indoors. I myself haven't been affected that much but it is getting worse. We usually close our store for it and go to the corner of downtown and watch with family and friends. It's fun and I'm going to miss it (besides being able to do this on work hours and get paid for it-LOL!!!). We are a small community of sorts and this is a total bummer. This one was suppose to be the biggest one ever with lots of school bands, floats, and so on!!!
Have a good night everyone!!!

Hi do you know if there are any fire up near Curlew or Republic? I used to live up there, as a matter of fact my man worked firestorm 93 it was terrible. I was just wondering, take care of yourself and I'll pray for rain (without lightning) for you guy's.

Wow, that's a lot of planning for those who participate in the parade! I thought of you as we drove by on our way to Seattle to visit our daughters. It was very smokey frome Kennewick to Thorp! Same if not worse coming home tonight. You couldn't see Ellensburg as you started down the hill go to Seattle!. Coming home the smell of smoke was thick in the air, so sad it caused the cancellation of the Fair Parade!

Oh so sorry. It must be awful to have all that smoke in the air. Take care.
