I've been doing a lot of research on Low GI diets lately. I have a wicked sweet tooth. No...scratch that. I am a sugar addict! I have little to no energy and I'm always tired. Something's gotta give. I also know that since I had Gestational Diabetes with my pregnancies that makes me more prone to developing Type II Diabetes on down the line. So, I'm modifying my meal plan, upping my water intake and cutting out the sugar. I can't just cut back on sugar because I'm seriously addicted to it and I know it's not good for me.
My new favorite book is "The Eat-Clean Diet Recharged" by Tosca Reno. I read it months ago, but spent this week re-reading it and making notes in the margins, highlighting important parts, etc. This weekend will be all about detoxing my system and meal planning for the entire week. Tosca Reno has great meal plans and suggestions in the book. I track my food on Spark, but I am very old-school and enjoy jotting things down in a notebook that I take with me everywhere. I'm also researching Low-GI recipes to make at home. Now that Autumn is upon us, I plan to dig out my crockpot and start making soups. They are so filling and very healthy for you!
As for exercise, I bought a great DVD at Barnes & Noble the other day. "Bob Greene 8-Week Total Body Makeover." I love the tips he gives and the exercises are totally doable. He even has a booklet inside the DVD that breaks down how often you workout and increases the time each week. I love that. Here's my plan:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday: Bob Greene DVD--20 min.
Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday: Leslie Sansone 2 or 3-mile walk + 30 min. of Pilates
Sunday: Active rest! Go hiking with my kids, do some stretching or yoga
I have some fitness goals that I'm working toward. I really would like to run a 5K next spring/summer. And, now that I'm living in the South and just a few hours from the beach, I really want to rock a swimsuit next summer.
I am back on the wagon (again). I have fallen off a few times this year. Dealing with the grief after losing my son was unbearable at times. BUT...I have 2 great kids here on earth that need me and I want to be healthy for them.
Anyway, I'm REALLY back this time and ready to get to work! :)
