Catching up!

Thursday, September 20, 2012

Since my cousins left yesterday afternoon, I've done laundry, remade bed, tidied up & vacuumed here at the condo. Now packing up to head for home today...if I get things done in time I'll visit my friend in the nursing home for lunch on my way home, if not, I'll visit with her after lunch.

I am quite excited as I'm hoping to volunteer at the Donkey Sanctuary we visited yesterday, doing Reiki and Reiki Drumming and perhaps also doing Therapeutic Touch! It is quite horrifying hearing what some of these poor souls have had happen to them and I hope to be able to help them settle in & be less fearful ... they are allowed to live out their days in serenity at the sanctuary, but some have chronic conditions & some are still traumatized. I'll keep you posted.

Yesterday a rather large donkey sneaked up behind me and rubbed up against my hip rather roughly... LOL... she wanted her ears scratched!! Perhaps I can teach her better manners!

I also met Trooper, who can walk, but so very, very slowly... he is called Trooper because he was in such rough shape when they rescued him, but he gained as much health & strength as he could at the sanctuary and now enjoys greeting visitors! He truly is a trooper and a very gentle soul.

If you're interested in learning more, here is the link to their website:

I've purposefully left it on the link so you can read about the donkey that rudely asked me to scratch her ears... seems she's mischievous!

I'm going to ask my Mom if she'd like to have a donkey sponsored.... she would receive a photo & story of her chosen donkey' progress ... would make her happy to know she's still able to help somehow, even from the nursing home! And perhaps it will give her the incentive to work at getting some strength back, for if she does, I'll take her to see the donkeys (the sanctuary is equipped for walkers & wheelchairs)!

A bit rainy here this morning & much cooler than it's been in a while... autumn has arrived!
