Finding Exercise

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

Where do I start? Its been a while since I Blogged. I was doing such a good job of doing a few a week, I was also doing a better job of being on Spark People on a daily basis. Since my last blog, I have had difficulty staying on track with food tracking & my Exercise routine.

My food tracking slipped due to an old computer at home and a lack of free time at work, but on a positive note, I'm still eating relatively healthy. It seems Sparking has helped me set some good eating habits. emoticon emoticon

Now exercise: I did the 5K Rookie program; I ran my 5K; emoticon the Program had ended, emoticon I kept up with regular running for about 3 weeks. Then.... the perfect storm of Exercise destruction: my daughter started school & swim lessons, I got sick, my parents went on a trip (which they are still on), and shortly after my Hubby got a job emoticon The weather also did not cooperate - thanks Hurricane Isaac! emoticon

So, now I'm trying to figure out what will work for Exercise. I'll talk it through with you OK? I REALLY want to get running outdoors again! My day starts at 5am & its too dark to run outside (besides, I just cant see getting up any earlier, I only get about 6+/- hours of sleep as it is). I get home at 6pm +/-, then its time to make dinner for the kids (luckily Hubby helps by preparing for me ahead of time), then homework time, feed chickens & water plants. Now that Hubs is at work and the folks are away I have no one to watch them from dinner to bath time. If I try to do Wii, they want to do it too & I wind up not getting any time, or my 2 yr old cries the entire time...no bueno. emoticon So I guess I need to find something else until my parents get back into town.

Other Options:
- I'm looking for a treadmill on Craigslist... this will help to keep running even when it starts getting icky out. But i may have the same problem with the lil one crying.. or I'll have to do it at 9pm once the kids are asleep...we will see.
- Break out the DVD's, I haven't found one I really like yet, I find most instructors really annoying. But at least this is an option until I actually find a treadmill.
- Do about 10 min. of exercises in the mornings... this is do-able- like doing wall push ups & squats in the shower...multi-tasking! emoticon emoticon

10 min here & there can really add up. Sounds like you have a few great ideas too. I use to turn on some music and dance while holding my lil one- kept him quiet & I got a small workout in by holding him and lifting him.

Love the dedication of doing wall push ups in the shower, but it sounds rather prone to slipping/falling. I have a treadmill for days when I cannot get to the gym, so I can recommend this machine as a backup.

I did do squats, desk pushups, and chair lifts (sit in chair, life butt off chair by straightening arms on chair) in my office. Also, took 5-10 minute walks a few times a day as well as during lunch. I thought people would think this odd, but others do it now as well.
