Exercise Is Working For Me!

I have limited mobility and use a cane. I was hit by a car as a teenager on my way to school and had extensive injuries to my knees and hips. I set a goal to become stronger and increase my health. I started exercising for 10 minutes most mornings. I usually walk in the house. Next I added Leslie Sansone's dvd/"Walk At Home Series". I started with one mile/ three times a week. I slowly increased to two miles / three days a week. Now I have increase to more than three day of walking.
I started small and have just keep pushing forward to increase my exercise.
I love to garden. Each year I want to plant a fall garden. By the beginning of September, my knees and feet are too sore to continue gardening at full speed.
This year I am strong enough to keep gardening. I have been cleaning up my pots and planting my fall crops.
I am able to reach this goal do the increase in exercise.
I am very excited and happy with my progress. It is a small win but it makes my life better. I enjoy gardening and eating my fresh, home grown veggies.
I believe it will help me be healthier.
I plan to keep pushing forward and exercising. I know my limits and make sure I adapt all exercises to my physical limitations.
I plan to move forward making small changes.
I want to make these changes long enough for them to become new habits.

We just have to get started. Start small and then add more movement later.

I believe we can change our lives one step at a time!

    Thanks for sharing. I know it is important to do a little something every day. Initially I was having problems with fibro pain but that has resolved since I began my weight loss journey. I really have very little pain anymore. Motivation is my overall problem. I do well for awhile and then poop out. I get bored. My stamina is still low, but it is better. You are inspiring. My goal will be to do a minimum of 10 minutes of some kind of exercise a day.

    I can relate to a lot of what you wrote. I suffer from chronic pain too, (back, hips, groin, thigh, butt) from arthritis of the spine and degen disk disease. It never goes away. My original motivation to lose weight was pain control. It didn't work, but I still do regular exercise, something I never did before finding Spark. I can't do more than 20" at a time, but I figure that's better than not exercising at all.
    Exercise does work !

    What an inspiring blog! Yes mobility is the key to being able to do more of the things we love.

    One step at a time or even one minute of chair exercising can be a Godsend. I overdid yesterday and am so sore today but toimorrow is another day besides I did get in ten minutes of walking today . I also have the walking DVD's and they really help in the winter and on days where going out is impossible. Congrats on your moving up and getting your garden started. emoticon

    Thank you for sharing your story. Although I don't have quite the physical challenge that you do, I often get discouraged when my health issues make it difficult for me to exercise for longer than 10 minutes at a time. You have reminded me that 10 minutes is better than 0 minutes.
