What a difference 2 months makes!

Two months ago I stepped on the scale and saw with horror that I was the heaviest I have ever been or could have ever imagined being. I cried and was sad and it was horrible, but today I am so grateful for that painful experience because it shattered the denial I'd been using to convince myself that things weren't so bad.

Had anyone told me I could lose 30 pounds in 2 months without crash dieting or working out to excess I would have laughed. But I have! A genuine lifestyle change is truly more effective than the most restrictive crash diet in the world.

I am really starting to believe in myself and let go of the idea that I'll be overweight forever. In addition to the thrill of being 30 pounds lighter, here are some other things I'm loving:

- Being able to jog (albeit at a snail's pace) for 3 whole minutes. Thanks C25K app!

- Noticing how strong I've gotten when I carry my groceries upstairs or fling a trashbag into the dumpster. Thanks strength training!

- Moving faster and with more ease than I have in years. Thanks 5:30am workouts!

- Experiencing a culinary renaissance by learning new recipes for preparing every new fruit and vegetable I can get my hands on. Thanks clean eating!

If this is what a person can achieve in 2 months, what is there to look forward to next month or the month after that? For anyone at the beginning of their journey who feels overwhelmed by how much weight they have to lose, know that you will feel better and stronger with each passing day, week and month, and you will NEVER regret choosing health.

    Wow, 30 pounds in two months is amazing - congratulations! It has taken me 8 months to lose 44 pounds to put it in perspective. So don't worry if your weight loss slows down at some point. What I focus on is maintaining what I have lost in those in-between plateaus. Enjoy that fabulous accomplishment and how great you feel. emoticon
