Mmmm, summer. Barbecues, picnics, and ice cream, oh my!
Oh my waist that is!
Summer time is great, but it can be difficult to maintain weight loss with so many social eating opportunities about. I know I definitely enjoyed my self, but now I'm ready to get back on track. The start of a new school year can be really helpful in shaking up your health routine for the better.
Since classes started I've been tracking my calories with a food log, aiming for 1200-1500 calories per day, and I'm slowly added more exercise time. I'm naturally a planner so keeping a food log works really well for me when I use it! Weekend usage however is still proving difficult to nail down for me.
Exercising is going pretty well. I find when I'm stressing about classes, work, money or anything else, if I go for a walk it really helps me chill out. It's almost like meditation. You go for a walk and you kind of connect with your body and experience what's going on in the world right in front of you, instead of being caught up in worrying about the future (a favorite pastime of mine).
I think the most helpful thing to remember when you're getting back into a routine, or starting one for the first time, is to stop comparing yourself to other people. Feeling bad about yourself isn't going to make the weight come off any quicker. You just have to know that you are on the road to treating yourself right, carry on with your efforts, and remember that your body will thank you!
