Yesterday I left home early to pick up one of my favorite running buddies (AKASHELLY). I have been struggling lately with a huge desire to quit strength training and I was really looking forward to talking things out with her on our way down to Silver Falls State Park where we would be running. During the almost two hour drive, we talked and laughed and I was feeling much better.
We had decided to run Silver Falls as a training run for the half marathon we have there in November. Things started off very well as we warmed up and enjoyed the gorgeous views. We were running near one of the waterfalls when I stumbled on a rock sticking up from the trail. I tried to recover my balance and decided to run into a tree rather than fall down or risk going over the edge of the trail. I was fine so we continued on the trail, talking and laughing as we went. We realized we needed a potty break and figured we were only about a mile from the bathroom so we hurried on. As we rounded a bend, my running buddy swallowed a winged bug whole and started coughing like a cat trying to hack up a hairball. She and I were laughing so hard, I thought I would wet myself. After she took a drink break and washed the bug the rest of the way down, we started running again and were impressing some of the hikers there because we were running so well on the steep hills. My friend took a pretty good spill (known as trail surfing) and skinned up her knees and palms but thankfully, wasn't seriously hurt. We weren't far from the bathroom at this point, so we got her cleaned up and called it a day.
As we drank our recovery chocolate milks in the car on the way home, we were still laughing so hard about our adventure that i laughed chocolate milk out my nose. Gross but funny. Even as I lay in bed last night, I was laughing. Running is not only good for the body, it is good for my mind and my soul. I love my "runnerd" friends!
