My Marathon that wasn't

Saturday, September 15, 2012

I should be at the starting line right now. The fly-over just happened, the singing of the National Anthem complete, but instead I'm sitting on my couch drenched in biofreeze & tiger balm writing a blog.
*Sheer Sadness*
I have been in so much pain the last 3 weeks, I really didn't have a choice of running or not but it's still a massive bummer.
I went to the expo on Thursday, figured I should still go get my shirt. Looking at the excitement on the faces of those who were running filled me with such envy. I want to be there again. I know the only way that will happen is by rehab'n my back and leg.
So today instead of standing at the starting line, I'm stretching, icing, heating & resting.
A different 'running' struggle to get through. And I will get through this. :)

You've got to repair your " machine ", first !
These things all take time, and patience !
Best Wishes !

Great attitude. This is only minor set back. Your attitude will carry to your finish line.

I feel for you. My knee and back have sidelined me from my regular walking and other normal activities. It's so hard to be patient and work on healing. I overdid yesterday and am paying with more back pain today. Not worth it! Let's keep our focus on healing at this time so we can resume our normal activities as soon as possible.

You will come back from this. It's a huge bummer, though. I've had to DNF due to injury, and that's no fun, either. Walking past the finish line to get to the family gathering spot was humiliating, with my big sling and ice pack around my neck and everyone else with their medals. But 6 weeks later I finished a different marathon, got my medal and felt great! You will do that, too. Stay positive :-)

I am positive you will come back even stronger but I know it still sucks that all that training you did and you are on the couch. Know that you did the best you could and work on recovery.....there is always another race but you only have 1 body emoticon

Sometimes you have to do what you have to do instead of what you want to do. And it's disappointing. And it sucks. But you will recover, and you will get stronger, and you will be on the starting line again. In the meantime, just rest and enjoy the day. Chances are, you may find some joy that you would've missed if you had gone ahead with what you had planned. Look for it. (((hugs)))
