The Quintessential "Little Black Dress"

Friday, September 14, 2012

Hi, fellow Sparkers!

Well, I did it! I bought THE dress. emoticon

The most gorgeous dress that I can imagine, to wear when I stand in my friend's wedding in Dec., but to be an awesome addition to my wardrobe, anyway. (Need some fancy Christmas & New Year's parties to go to now!)

I bought a 12, and it fit. That's right! A size 12. The last one in the store, as a matter of fact, and they weren't getting new stock, and I got an amazing price on it. emoticon

I've wracked my brains to think of when the last time was I could wear a 12. I was 23 years old. Twenty-one years ago. Oi! A fountain of youth just opened up for me!

Here's a pic of it on the hanger (still working on getting decent pics of me wearing it):

You can't see it very clearly in that shot, but here's a close-up pic of the patterned taffeta (skirt & jacket):

At the moment, I cannot wear the jacket. My "wings" are in the way. I plan to work hard to remove them, so I CAN wear the jacket in Dec. Just in case, though, I have a fall-back plan. The great thing about this dress is I can change the look by changing jackets, shawls, shoes, etc. The skirt needs to be taken up, because I'm SHORT. I'll wait 'til mid-Nov to have alterations done on it, since I'll probably have to have the dress taken in a bit by then, too.

I tried on a bunch of other dresses yesterday, and laughed my way through them. I found a rack of adorable petite dresses (some 12's among them), on clearance. Didn't know until I had tried 4 of them, with difficulty getting over my hips, that these were actually Missy Petite Junior sizes! Junior sizes have no hippage built in! Felt much better after that!

Also bought a classic lined black skirt (also a 12), because NONE, I say, NONE, of my skirts fit anymore! Wow. I have relatively few things that fit and look good on me right now...and not much money to get more (the money for the Little Black Dress was set aside months ago). The skirt was an absolute necessity, especially since I have a wedding to go to next week! And it is alterable, once I lose more.

So, in all...
I'm totally stoked!

WOW Size 12. I haven't seen that since 1986 at age 22. Can't wait to see you in the dress. I don't own any dress up clothes. My job is in manufacturing so I wear jeans and t-shirts. My 14's are getting loose so will soon be in a 12 myself. I plan on getting some dress up clothes when I hit my goal. Can't afford them right now just to shrink out of them. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
