Why is it we are not comfortable with the wisdom
of our bodies. We give the scales the power to
determine our "well-being" and feel victimized
when our bodies refuse to cooperate with our
manipulations. Often these feelings manifest
as anger towards our very bodies that love
and support us. This is crazy thinking at
We become dependent on outside formulas
such as calories in and calories out and expect
to read the scale as if we would check our
bank balance at the end of the month.
We forget that our bodies have agendas beyond
our weight loss goals. Sometimes these agendas
feel mysterious, unknowable and frustrating.
It comes back to love and trust. Instead of feeling
alienated from our bodies, we can choose to honor
the wisdom that is embodied within us. It is
important to remember that it was this very
alienation often cause our weight gain in the
A wise person once said that we grow and
change best in an environment of love. I am
learning that it is in this environment my
body responds best to my intentions even
if it is not always on my schedule.
Think about it; would you talk to your
children the way you talk to your body
and yourself when you gain or do not lose
the weight you expected to lose? Be
patient, loving, consistent, and committed
and I promise you will see the results you
want, just not on the schedule you plan.
