Peak313 Day 3, I need some sleep, today's plans, and Adam's arthritis....

Wednesday, September 12, 2012

Today is day 3 of the Peak313.com challenge. I'm doing great with sticking to my workouts and making healthy eating choices. I have memorized this week's Bible verse, which I keep reciting in my head throughout the day. The only thing that could be better is I need more sleep! I worked on Monday until 11:30 pm and didn't get to sleep until about 12:30. Last night I worked till 11:00 but didn't fall asleep until after 1:00! I was on call for work, so I never sleep well when I'm on call. Now that the boys are in school and my husband joined a gym last week and goes first thing in the morning, I've been having to get up at 6:45 with the kids to get them off to school. I really need to find a way to get some more sleep! Hopefully I can catch up a little over these next few days off.

Today's plan is to do my Peak10 Cardio Strength workout. I'm doing Insanity, and today was a "rest day," but I feel like I need a little more cardio, plus I haven't been doing weights with Insanity and I don't want to lose any of the muscle tone that I built up during ChaLEAN Extreme and P90X2.

After my youngest gets on the bus this morning I will get my workout done, then I have some serious housecleaning to do! I worked the past 3 days so my house is showing the fact that I wasn't here to pick up after the boys, lol. Later this afternoon I'm meeting some friends for coffee at Barnes and Noble. Still trying to decide what I will drink while there. My two favorites (Pumpkin Spice Latte and White Chocolate Mocha) are so high in calories, even if I order then with skim milk and no whip... I thought of just getting a coffee and taking some of my own creamer in my purse to add to it. The would be way less calories (and a lot cheaper to buy a regular coffee than the "fancy" coffee drinks). Or I guess I could get tea, but I'm not much a tea drinker... We'll see...

My oldest has a doctor appointment with his arthritis doctor. He was diagnosed last year when his knees swelled up with fluid and looked like grapefruits! They haven't been swollen in quite a while. However, he's been complaining about a lot of neck pain and upper back pain. He walks around so stiff, and if you hug him and his neck gets moved he says it's so painful. I called his doctor and she thinks that the arthritis may be in his neck now... He's been back on Prednisone and Naproxen. She is talking about Methotrexate (which they use for cancer patients) and some physical therapy. I'm not too sure about the Methotrexate, but she says she's had good luck with it. She specializes in children with arthritis and is from Michigan State University Hospital. She only comes to the town next to us a couple times a month. I had called the office to make an appointment (it's always a nightmare calling that office, can never get appointments or anything). She had given me her cell phone number, pager, and email and said to contact her at any time. I texted her, and she called back an hour later and said she will come into town today to see him. She's not even scheduled to be in town this week! I am so thankful for her, I don't know of many doctors who would do that for their patients! She is going to show us some physical therapy exercises to try on him to see if it helps to loosen him up and decrease pain.

Good luck with your son. My niece had arthritis when she was younger. It is so hard on the little ones because they don't understand why they are in so much pain.
