Fighting the Fibro Monster - and Winning!

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

The last 7 days have been rough. The dormant fibro monster was gearing up for an attack. And attack it did. Sleepless, painful days and nights, not being able to eat, and doing the most minimal tasks. The pain caused my back to tense, causing spasms.

I fought back. Yesterday I forced myself to eat. Not just anything, but the healthy foods I have come to love. Tummy wasn't real appreciative, but the rest of me started feeling better. I also forced myself to walk in place and do simple chores. Again rebellion from my body.

Today improvement! Though I got out of bed weak I decided that I could accomplish 15 minutes. I turned that into 32, rebelling body and all.

This afternoon I am tired, but I'm not weak like I was. My tummy had no problem with the foods I was "stuffing" it with. My brain fog seems to be clearing. The spasms are all but gone. I even got to go to market and get lots of fresh freggies!

It does pay to continue on my program. Not just because I need to lose weight, but because it helps fend off my flares. I'm sure I can keep the diabetes that runs in the family at bay, too.

I'm so sorry you've been miserable. I understand the pain, spasms and fibro fog. Yes I do. It should get better and it sounds like you are making the best of it. I pray that you will get a great night sleep tonight. (((gentle hugs)))

What a triumph! I'm so proud of you for fighting that monster by not allowing it to control your choices. I know how hard the pain and weakness that it brings to your body is, but you fought back and won! Keep up those great choices.

    Sounds like a good day!
An encouragement to me to not give into the pain I have from what you call the "fibro monster." I'm hurting this week, too... mine flares up definitely when I'm tired, and I'm realizing that when I was exercising regularly, I have more stamina & strength, and less pain... I have GOT to figure out how to get more exercise into my full schedule!

Great job! You're definitely an inspiration to me!

I did not know before now that FM was one of your challenges. I've met several others here on SP (on the 55+ females team) dealing with this. And about 10 yrs back our pastor at our little Methodist church had to retire because of FM issues. She looked so normal it was hard to understand what she had been going through. She had always had a short haircut, but let her hair grow out a little longer. She said it was because it was too painful for her to lift her arms above her head to do the styling moves the short 'do required.

I have so much admiration for you and my other sparkfriends who move on through the pain of this. Sure do hope you're feeling better soon!
