Sarcasm/Put Downs

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

Sunday, I was out enjoying the beautiful afternoon on the lake in my kayak. As I was heading back toward my cove, a couple in a BIG FANCY boat are coming out of a cove. They slowed down even more when they saw me. At first I thought o how nice they are slowing down so they don't hit me with their wake. Then they both called out in a very sarcastic manner "Nice Boat!" After a moment and a deep breath, I simply replied " its a lot more fun than the gym." At that point they took off rather quickly.
Maybe I am a little on the nasty side, but I love it when someone tries to put me down and it obviously doesn't work.
I paddled on home enjoying the rest of my "workout" emoticon

Good on ya! When people say things like that I'm usually so baffled about why they need to be unkind that I can't think of a healthy response. Yours was excellent! Truthful, not spiteful, and clearly got them tongue-tied. :) May have even made one of them consider the joys of kayaking! emoticon

That was a great response and I don't see anything objectionable about it.

When someone puts other people down, it shows how insecure they are in their own skin. Otherwise, why would it momentarily make them feel better, more than or superior? They're worthy of pity, even in their big boat. How do they know you weren't paddling away from your own yacht? They don't.

Your answer was perfect. "Resist not evil."

I get reeeeeelly, reeeeeeelly, pee-ed off with people like that and, worse than you I'm afraid, I am usually mammoth caustic back at them.

Your retort was almost 'polite' but it DID work. Good for you! I probably would've said p*ss off before I ram you; or something similar. emoticon

I really don't understand some people, but happy to know there's other people like you that don't let 'them' get to you. Inconceivable was a good word...

My goodness. They're so much shallower than the water!

Wonder if they'd like to compare BMI & cholesterol readings & THEN laugh? emoticon emoticon

It's inconceivable the lengths some people will go to, just to be rude. Some how this makes them feel superior, I guess... however; you came way out on top with your calm and controlled retort. I really applaud you... and yes, kayaking is a lot better than a gym workout. emoticon emoticon emoticon

We have a big boat & I would rather kayak. They were just being rude. You go girl & keep enjoying your kayaking & yes it is so much more fun than the gym.
