? days without incident

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

Have you ever seen those signs "38 days without an accident' in front of a store? The numbers vary, but the general idea is the same at various companies. The sins got me thinking, what if I had a sign like that? Not without accidents, I'm clumsy and I have two young children, we wouldn't last a day.

No, my sign would be different. It would say "(some number) without binging." I think it would be motivating to try to increase the number. I'm not sure where I could hang it though. On the one hand it'd be nice to have it somewhere that I could see and be motivated, but I wouldn't want to broadcast my bingeing issues to the world. I wouldn't really like to broadcast it to my girls either for that matter.

I'll still need to think about it a bit more. i do think I'm onto something here though.

I hadn't thought about making it my tracker. I'll have to look into that. I'm slowly getting more 'spark' savvy.

Thanks for your insight Justy. I get so -bogged down in trying to live multi-dimensionally, i.e. past, future and present all at the same time. It can get overwhelming and it's nice to see that it doesn't have to be. Thank you for the encouragement.

I do pray every morning and evening for help with my day, health and general help. Reading scriptures daily seems to help too, but that's another habit which I'm just working at improving one day at a time.

Have you considered making this your 'tracker' on your spark page? Good idea no matter how you record it!! thanks.

I like this idea too. You can always post it here. I think that a goal deserves a reward. We are too likely to beat ourselves up for our downfalls and not good at rewarding good behaviours. A new "habit" takes, they say, 21 days to form. So.... what about trying to go 21 days without a binge. Rewarded with... a new book? Haircut?

The secret for me is not to see it that way on a daily basis. Yes, if you go 21 days then it will be easier from then on if you have created alternate behaviours.... but only think of it for today. live in today. I like to ask God to feed my what I need, not what I want. I can only ask right now. I don't know what will happen in the future... spending a day in an emergency room or in the hospitality of someone else so I have no control over the food... but for today at each bite, you can ask God to help you make the heatlhy choice.
