I've been doing food combining eating plans for so long, that it's still hard for me to eat something as simple as a cold cut sandwich with full-fat cheese & margarine. While on my Acadian Festival trip with Mom, who is pre-diabetic, told me her dietician told her to eat some protein with her fruit, especially if she needed the sugar to go a long way.
Finding a low/no fat protein is HARD!!
Then I remembered she kept a lot of Laughing Cow light cheese in the fridge. I *LOVE* "Vache qui rit" cheese, even the plain stuff! So as I picked up a few essentials at the grocery store last night, I looked at the nutritionals for Laughing Cow light cheese. Pretty good, actually. 50 cals, 5g protein, 2g fat for 2 pieces. REALLY?? 2 wedges is only 50 cals, and the fat content is that low??
And Sobeys has a promotion to get 3 Air Miles when you buy 2 packages of LC cheese.
So 2 packages in the cart, along with other money-saving deals and essentials, and I'm headed for home. My Guy decides to be nosy and starts putting away the foodstuff when we get home, and he has a typical reaction to new foods I buy. "WTH is this, and why is there a big cow on the front of it?"
"It's cheese, sweetheart. Low-fat cheese, and I'm going to try some for the rest of the week. Want a wedge?"
His upturned nose look is so funny.
So this morning, before I go for my morning walk-about in the mall, I ate my first fruit and one wedge of cheese. It still feels funny to eat a dairy product with a whole piece of fruit, but it wasn't difficult or yucky... just makes my food brain wrinkle a forehead.
Hopefully this will help to keep up my energy levels throughout the morning. If so, then the next step is to find that sweet spot for the amount of protein that works best for me.
Wish me luck.
