THIRD Half Marathon: Done!

Monday, September 10, 2012

Hey friends... I know it's been a long while since I last posted, and I'm sorry about that! Life has been crazy, fun, and filled with change and blessings lately. It is an adjustment getting used to working from home and trying to find the balance between lazy and overworked (where my business stuff leaks into my personal time, and vice versa). I know that the coming months will bring more change and challenge, and I will try to pop in and leave an update here and there when I have time. (For more consistent updates, find me on facebook! I have a page for She Lives Fit that you can follow if you're interested.)

Anyway, the latest and greatest is that I completed my THIRD half marathon yesterday! I am definitely feeling sore today... ow ow!

I did this city-half last year with my good friend Jocelyn, but she was unable to participate this year since she moved even further away. So, I enlisted another new friend of mine, K., to train and run with me! We have been training the past 3 months or so, doing 2-3 runs per week together. It has been so nice to have her companionship in preparation (and good motivation to get out of bed when we're meeting at 5:15 am to beat the heat!).

My first half was in Fargo last year in May, and I finished in 2:07, with one bout of walking. I was training really hard and very consistently for this first race, and I felt very proud of how it went. My second half was one year ago today - in my city - and I wasn't training/running as hard, but I WAS doing the LiveFit challenge and a TON of strength training and HIIT cardio, so I was more FIT and in shape than I am today. I finished my second half in 2:04.

That being said, I am pleased with how yesterday went, as I wasn't trying to "beat" my times before, but just finish the race and do my best to not walk. Our training runs were pretty slow, averaging between 10-11 min. miles (and some slower during humid weather), so I aimed for a consistent pace of 9:45 - 10:00 min miles for the first 8 or so miles, and then kicked up the intensity to 9:00/pace for the last 4-5 miles. I finished the race in 2:08!

Here are some pictures from the morning!

Before the race, ready to run. It was GORGEOUS weather, a crispy cool 58 degrees to start!

K. and me waiting at the start!

Running! Around mile 4 here.

WE FINISHED!

I have more photos I would like to share, but SP blogs are being glitchy and won't allow me to upload it! (Frustrating.) After the race, K. and I and our "biggest fans" (my hubby and her boyfriend) went out to the Original House of Pancakes to get breakfast/lunch. I had a short stack of pumpkin pancakes with pecans and a bowl of fruit. It was amazing!
