Me and My Pedometer

Monday, September 10, 2012

Everyday I start off with my pedometer in my right pocket. It helps remind me daily that each step counts. I gave up wearing a wrist watch and replaced my time piece with a pedometer that has a clock. Even better I can reflect on my weeks progress any time I like as my pedometer keeps 7 days of recorded steps. I have washed 3 pedometers , lost 2 and flat wore 1 out. I have 3 spares and feel lost if I leave it at home.

My goal is 6000 steps a day but reach beyond 10000! My highest day has been 20887 and I was very tried at the end of the day!

Count those steps and every step counts! Happy Monday!

I feel lost without mine too! Checking my steps through the day keeps me moving.

Thanks for sharing this. I've been pondering getting a pedometer and was curious how motivating people found them and it sounds like you find it useful. I'm curious about what kind you use? Would you recommend it?

Nice job on keeping your goals in sight!

I totally agree - I have a Fitbit and I LOVE it! It helps give a much better idea of just how active - or inactive - you actually ARE during any given day.

In your reply to me, you mentioned you just needed more time to get more steps. I found that I could get more steps by combining activities. If I want to watch a football game, I try to ride the elliptical trainer part of the time (helps to have the space where you can do that) or walk around the house during commercials. I also park aways from the store instead of parking close. If I have to shop for something in a large store like Walmart, I actually like to make a full walk around the store just to get extra steps in. It's amazing how it adds up! Good luck!

I also wear my pedometer every day and have gone through several. The one you are using sounds pretty nice! Those steps definitely add up and you are doing great!

I recently started using a pedometer again and I love it. If you see you're not going to get your steps in for the day, it motivates you to get out and get them! It also encourages you to get your steps early so you don't have to find time for them later in the day. You have a reasonable goal for starting out and you'll find it easier to add to your goal later on. I just changed my goal today to 12,000 steps (used to be 10,000) because I was going over all the time as I got to where I really enjoyed the walks outside! Best of luck in your program and keep walking!
