Yesterday, against my better judgement and in the face of my fears, I did the Tough Mudder event in Cascade, WI. It was both easier and harder than I thought it would be. (If that's even possible!) The best part was knowing it was not a timed event. The only speed concerns I had were keeping up with my team and getting off the course before they closed it.
To everyone who encouraged me before the race, thank you! I'll respond to each of you in turn, but please know that your comments helped me make the decision to go ahead with the race even after last week's poor performance in the half-marathon.
This is the kind of event that requires a lot of training, but also mental fortitude. It helps to have a great team, too! You can't expect to do most of the obstacles by yourself, unless you are extremely fit. You've got to be willing to accept help (and give it, too!), if you want to finish.
All in all, it was a fantastic experience and I'm so glad I did it. Race report coming soon...
