Deceptively clever and simple stuff...

Really busy day today - so I have cut and pasted a book review from amazon co uk...

I write reviews amongst other things - if you're interested have a look...

Anyway, this is about a book called the Miracle Question and is quite interesting...

There are quite a few versions of "The Miracle Question" and lots of different ways to use it - both personally and professionally...

Sometimes the answer is not the one you expect - or it is a different problem that you realise is hindering your life...

I am a specialist in addiction, weight loss, relationships and a few other things - one of them called Process Communication - I met the clinical psychologist from NASA - and he taught me a few "tricks" but that's a story in itself...

If you listen carefully to your answer - or your clients answer - then you can employ a technique called the "Ware Sequence" (google Paul Ware & Taibi Kahler for more info on this) and this makes the question even more helpful.

Basically, we all have a favoured distress sequence made up of thoughts, feelings, actions and inactions, unhelpful beliefs etc and the answer to the "Miracle Question" will normally help you uncover your way out of distress...

Linda Metcalfe covers the "Miracle Question" over 10 chapters with her own style of how to use it - with helpful examples, case histories and exercises to emphasise the power of this question.

Books like this are deceptively clever and most readers will miss the simplicity of "getting better" and attempt to use logic and rational thinking rather than giving the exercises a bash and seeing what happens...

Creating a wonderful future and then working backwards seems to be too simple to work - and yet - the brain apparently is a goal seeking mechanism - amongst other wonderful things...

The book is written in a very easy to read style - not too heavy like some psychotherapy books and can be read from back to front in a couple of hours.

The Miracle begins when you choose to use the question and apply it to your own life - or that of your clients...

Most books like this I read - I am looking for one sentence that may change your life - with this book it was easy - the sentence is obviously the "Miracle Question"...

"Suppose tonight while you sleep, a miracle happens. When you awake tomorrow, what will you see yourself doing, thinking or believing about yourself that will tell you a miracle has happened in your life?"

Other versions may say - what will you feel, or notice in your surroundings - or who will be there with you etc...

I had a client who said he would notice his training shoes would still be there - and there would be a leftover Chinese Takeaway (his favourite food) instead of silver foil and hypodermic needles - as he was an injecting & crack smoking type of fella. He couldn't remember the last time he'd eaten a Chinese - even though he "remembered" it was his favourite food - and when he scored drugs and then took them all - he would sell whatever he had around him - including his shoes if they were new...

My intervention - we went for a Chinese... Nice...

Anyway, this book has the potential to change your life - even to create a "miracle"...

Your choice...

Until tomorrow...
