Sometimes I get so overwhelmed about the amount of weight I have to lose. I have recently changed my viewpoint. Instead of focusing on my final goal I am taking it one day at a time 1 meal at a time. To motivate myself I am reflecting on 6 months ago:
1. 6 months ago I was only half tracking my food. I was following a weight loss plan on and off for the past 8 years and not accomplishing much.
2. 6 months ago I did not make exercise a priority. I have a gym membership but did not use it on a consistent basis.
3. 6 months ago I could only wear my biggest size clothes as over half the clothes in my closet no longer fit.
4. 6 months ago I was so tired that all I wanted to do was veg out in front of the TV after work or sleep. I did not have much of a social life besides hanging at home with my kids and husband.
5. 6 months ago I basically gave up and was thinking about gastric bypass surgery.
I began to make some changes in April 2012 and then I joined Sparkpeople in May 2012 and my life has improved drastically:
1. Today I am conscious of what I eat and I track everyday the good, the bad and the ugly. My eyes have been opened to the high sodium diet I had previously. I am proud to say that my nutrition has improved and I now give my body the nutrients it craves on a daily basis.
2. Today I have consistently incorporated cardio exercise into my life at least 5 days a week for 40 minutes since July. I have also incorporated strength training 3 days a week since August. I workout in the morning sometimes or the evening. I use my gym membership, home exercise videos, the gym at my job, the great outdoors, whatever. I used to use time as an excuse, but now if I have a busy schedule I break it up 10-20 minutes here and there - it adds up!
3. Today I have more energy and I feel great! I am also more focused at work and my stress level has diminished some.
4. Today I have worn so many clothes in the last 2 months that I could not fit in years.
5. Today I am not thinking about giving up. I am more determined then ever to reach my goals. This is not a diet for me it is a lifestyle change.
