Today is day 190 of my "on track" streak!

What a great day....I love the feeling of being on track! I get tempted to go off track sometimes, but my streak is so much more important to me than any junk food could ever be!

This morning I was thinking about March 1st, when I started my streak, and how much my life has changed since then. (I have progress pictures in my Spark photos if you are interested.) Back in March, I weighed 286 lbs, and I was just slowly dying of obesity. I made many attempts to "diet" and exercise. I even belonged to a women's gym. But I never put forth any real effort into my workouts. I wanted an easy workout, with limited exertion. If a workout made me start to sweat or breathe heavy, I would quit and tell myself that it was too hard for me.

But when I started my streak, I knew that I had to make a change. The same old, same old just wasn't working. I was completely out of shape and unhealthy, and I really wanted to change. I wanted to finally feel GOOD. So I decided to forget about dieting, and just make my health a priority!

So I quit the women's gym and started working out at home. I really had to push myself to get through the workouts at first. I was only working out for 15 minutes a day, but I made sure to make that 15 minute workout a good one! I pushed myself to keep going, even when I was tired, even when I was sweaty and out of breath. I knew I was capable of MORE. And with each passing day, I was more and more determined to stay on track for just one more day. I never looked too far ahead. Just one more day...and then another... and then another. And slowly I started to make progress!

Before long, I was doing 30 minute workouts once a day...and then twice a day. I felt myself getting stronger and my stamina increasing. I even began to LOVE working up a sweat! It felt good to know I was working so hard!

So much has changed now! I don't diet...I LIVE it! (I remember Richard Simmons used to say something like that back in the 80's!) I LIVE every day...and each day I am determined to live it to the fullest, and in the healthiest way possible. I don't eat junk food anymore...and I don't eat "diet" food, either. I eat healthy, real food, because it fuels my body for my workouts!

I workout hard and I see so many changes in myself since I started my streak! Not only am I now 71 lbs lighter, but I am so strong now, and so healthy! My waist is so firm beneath the layers of fat that I am slowly working off. I am burning that fat with my workouts, and building beautiful lean muscle beneath. I am healthier than I have been in years!

My current goal is to make September the HEALTHIEST month of the year so far, and I am doing great at reaching that goal. I have lots of Spark friends joining me in this goal, and its great to know I'm not in this alone! Thank you to all my supportive Spark friends! Let's keep changing our lives, one day and one choice at a time. Let's make this the healthiest month of the year so far. We're not going to diet, we're going to LIVE IT!

By the way, I'm 51 years old, and I workout at least 90 minutes most days now, and sometimes more! No excuses!

UPDATE: (Sept 12) Spark Guy Chris mentioned my blog and I've been getting lots of comments. I apologize for not being able to thank everyone individually but I want you to know that I appreciate your comments and support very much. Have a healthy day!

I love your upbeat blogs. You have helped stay positive and looking less at the weight than the healthy accomplishments. Overeating on junk is the pits. For me it kills the soul as well as the body. (oops! too serious need to lighten up!)

Really am enjoying another day. Three in a row. This is great. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing! I have just started a new journey on sparkpeople. I've learned I have to think of it as a new journey, and not a continuation of the one I started 5 years ago. I will have to set some streak goals to keep me motivated for the long haul!

That is so great. I am happy for you. Also it gives me hope for myself, (I'm about where you were in March, only 20 years younger) that it can be done.

Thanx Spark friend. Today is a particularly hard day. My family, my kids don't support me in fact they ridicule me.( I am still fat,) although I try to log on every day. I love the community. I also suffer from Chronic Depression & hate the meds I take. I feel I am walking through mud. The Spark guy shared your link & I feel like today I'm my best friend & I love me, so just for today I will loving care for myself with good meals, rest, prayer & meditation,& if I can't surround myself with people who love me, I can surround myself in love. Blessings to you. Great blog by the way. emoticon emoticon

I really needed this post, thanks! Have only joined spark people a few days ago and its not going great... it takes me forever to post my nutrition tracker info because I am new at this. I was hanging in there until last night when I got upset and ate a bowl of icecream and two mini-bags of m&ms... oh yeah, and then the "healthy" lol baked doritos I scarfed... It's nice to know this process can work for someone and I am determined to perservere even though I am not breezing through this easily. Thanks! emoticon

Thanks so much for your motivation. I could have written your blog---the part about "I was just slowly dying of obesity", etc. Many of your words have been my thoughts. I couldn't lose weight until I said "...and just make my health a priority!". Again, thanks for your reminder--one day at a time. emoticon

Thats the way I'm going to lose weight, one day and one workout at a time. I won't get there as fast as when I was younger but I know I will get there. Good philosophy. Will keep me inspired. Be strong.

You are an inspiration and I am going to start with your mantra of staying on track for one more day, I think it will really help me, because I tend to get all gung ho, do great and then fizzel out, but if I get to that stopping point and think, I can do this for one more day, then maybe that will help me keep going. I too like to work out at home and try to do some body weight strength exercises in the bathroom at work, like squats and wall pushups.

You are awesome! Your motivation is inspiring! The best advice I've heard is to keep telling yourself just one more day and don't look to far in the future... I think that's been my biggest problem I look to far in the future and give up before I even truly get anywhere... Thank you for this post and thank you for inspiring me to do better, you don't know how much this means to me...
