Someone once said to me that they asked my dad, "What would you do if your daughter's husband treated her the way that you treat your wife?"
This statement came back to my mind recently--I don't know why--and as I thought about it, I realized that I could have married a completely different type of man than I did....if I had've followed my father's example of what a husband and father is. (I should clarify--that example was not a good one.)
Than it hit me; if my daughter's husband treated her how my husband treats me, would I be happy? With a smile on my face, I could honestly answer, YES!
Then another thought came to mind; we as parents set the standards for what our kids are going to accept. We all need to ask ourselves, are we treating our spouses the way we want our kids to be treated by their future spouses? If not, I suggest we change for their sake.
How high are your kids' standards going to be?
