HELLP!! TORE MY ACL.. IM GOING TO GET FAT :(

all my progress!!

so im nervouse i tore my acl and have really been missing my taebo and just working out. i feel so fat since i CANT! i dont like that word. I think i can but my knee keeps slipping and is not sturdy and cant afford to hurt myself and get bk on them crutches....

then.... my doc says have to have surgery to fix. or sit down and no taebo.... :(

cant do that. so help anyone!!

any workout ideas i can do to keep knee safe.

after surgery (no date picked yet) i will be on crutches about a month and doing phys theropy for about 4-6 mo!!

cant sit around and get fat all that time!!!!

    I will admit I'm not one for advocating surgery unless absolutely necessary...once the body has been invaded it opens you up to so many other things so first see if strengthening the area will help. Talk to you doc about exercises that will strengthen those areas, i.e., straight leg raises, stair steps (or step downs), sissy squats, etc Chair exercises are great suggestions to have in the plan but do add exercises that will strengthen the knee area and strengthen means working it back to health. As you're doing tae bo, and sounds like you really enjoy it, don't give up on having it in your future again. Great words from DMX song:

    "First I'm gonna crawl, then I'm gonna walk.
    Then I'm gonna stand, then I'm gonna talk.
    Then I gotta learn, in order to teach.
    Then I gotta burn, in order to reach..."

    I have problems with my knees as well from being athletic in my extreme youth and wearing a brace (I call them my training wheels) when I workout helps alot along with doing exercises to strengthen it because I don't wear the training wheels everywhere.

    Sorry you're hurting. I also understand about wanting to work out but not wanting to cause more damage or pain. If you look under the "Heallthy Lifestyle" tab on your spark page, pull down to videos and type in a search for "chair exercises". There's a few on there. I'm sure if you google it you'll find more!

    Good luck with your surgery and have a smooth recovery!

    Thanks so much! and yes i tore my meniscus too. i guess if im going to do it i have to do it BIG.... AND TEAR IT ALL UP lol

    I tore mine two years ago and the meniscus at the same time. I was on no weight on left leg for 13 weeks. Although you feel like you can't do anything, you would be surprised at calories burned while walking on crutches, it's great exercise. Also physical therapy was lots of riding recumbent bike. You will get more exercise then you imagine. Just keep an eye on eating, friends and family tend to want to feed you when you are injured. You will make it through this. Good kick.

    There are a lot of Chair Exercises that you can do. While you are healing, stay at the Lower End of your Calorie Range as much as possible. Getting fat is NOT a given in this situation. You have lots of choices in your Eating and Activity, even if your Favorite Activity is Off Limits for awhile.
