Life is such a journey! I have been spending lots of time visiting with my middle daughter. She is such an excellent example of eating healthily. Once upon a time when the kids were little we only ate from our organic garden and all bread was made at home. Gradually over time, as I started to work more, my diet choices suffered and were not always the best. We still ate from our garden but other foods crept into our lives. Think ores and microwave popcorn and just run of the mill basic JUNK food.
My daughter started me thinking when she said that she felt so fortunate that in her formative years she was exposed to such good food and eating habits. Wow I DID used to have very good eating habits and food choices! What in the world happened!!! Then I decided it would be counter productive to try and figure out all of that! I guess the SHORT story would be LIFE happened! The great part about that is that I can change it back to the way it was before I got side tracked!
ENTER the vita mix blender and green smoothies, trips to the Whole Foods store to supplement what we don't have growing, lots of green veggies, fruits, seeds, nuts and spending a little more time in the kitchen. EXIT the white carbs, processed foods, meats, frozen healthy choice meals and sugar.
Ahhhh I really am returning to my old ways and I am ecstatic! emoticon emoticon emoticon

One step in front of the other, no need to look back, knowing where you are heading is what matters now, at least you know the difference between good food and junk food! emoticon

I just happened upon this blog and I must say we have a lot in common. However, my health suffered immensely from eating the modern Western way and "dieting" the Western way. Since you've had about a month, I was wondering if you are starting to feel the benefits of eating real foods again. emoticon

Way to go! Sounds like you have a good plan. I have to avoid Whole Foods or i'll spend my whole paycheck there!

Is this really possible, to go back to the good organic way of eating like we had growing up? I am wondering if my Nutrisystem falls under the processed foods category. I still have to add my own fruit and vegetables. They are sending me way more food than I can eat so I keep moving the delivery dates ahead but boxes keep slipping through. I'm more than ready to go back to my lower carb way that gave me the greatest success with weight loss. I felt better when I ate that way.

You go for it, girl. You'll feel better, too.

Change can be a very good thing. It sounds like you're on track to making yourself a priority. Good for you!! I can relate to your blog and appreciate you sharing your thoughts. I too have a trip to Whole Foods planned, as well as a local organic farm. I recommitted to taking better care of myself too. I wish you the best on your journey!

I know exactly what you are saying! Life just happened! It is good to get back to the things that were healthy though. I think you are doing a great job of that! At least you had a garden this summer to get your healthy food from. Reverting back to the way we use to do things is not a bad idea sometimes. Obesity is awful and more and more people are getting hit with it because life just happens! The white stuff is every where and so easy to pick up versus staying in the kitchen for just a little while and making something healthy!

Glad you got to spend the time with your daughter! Evidently you showed her the right way to do things when growing up! She has returned to it and so have you! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I, too, used to eat better when the kids were small. Now, like you say with our busy schedules, we have resorted to lots of convenience foods. Way too much sodium and additives! But how good are the Chinese entrees (from a famous restaurant) nuked and served over microwavable brown rice, skinless smoked sausage, chips and fruit....you get the idea.

Sigh. Life does go on!

Positive change is always good. You seem to be recommitting and reverting back to older, healthier ways of the past. You did it before and your daughter's reinforcement will ensure you keep going. Love it when the kids give us positive feedback that we actually DID some great things while raising them-ha!

Sounds like a great plan to me!! I think life does get in the way, but we have to make ourselves and our health the number one priority. Your enthusiasm is going to keep you going... emoticon emoticon
