You're Lying to Me

Monday, September 03, 2012

**A 6:45 AM humor blog**

You are lying to me. Not all of you, but a lot of you here on SP are lying to me. And I'm catching on.

Oh, yes, I am catching on.

I may not comment on each and every blog that I read, but I try to read each and every blog that you post. I want to keep track of your story--I am friends with you because I find you interesting, and I want to see your life develop through SP, just like you can see mine develop through SP.

But I have noticed a trend... a terrible trend... a 21st century trend... And I am realizing something...

Most of you will type ell oh ell... and I know that you are lying.

"I walked the dog yesterday lol."

"And I thought lol that maybe I could really lose the weight lol!"

"Lol I didn't even think about it that way before."

I am opening my eyes, and seeing through your lies. Your lies that you post every day... Ell Oh Ell. Because I have realized that you are, most likely, NOT laughing out loud at that moment!

No, LOL has turned into some sort of sick punctuation, a replacement or preparation for basic sentence structure. I used to believe that my SP friends were full of laughter, and maybe that is true, but now I know your dark secret.

You are NOT actually laughing out loud! You are just typing three letters in your blog because... because...

I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY. TELL ME. TELL ME YOUR SECRETS. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY YOU INSIST ON INFORMING ME THAT YOU ARE LAUGHING OUT LOUD WHEN YOU CLEARLY ARE NOT. TEEELLLLLLL MEEEEEEEEE!!!!

And it's everyone... Everyone does it... Even my own mother! I was visiting her one day, and I watched her write a message to her friend, and I saw her type out the letters...

L...

O...

L...

And you know what?

She was not laughing out loud. Not even a chuckle, or a giggle.

And neither am I.

---

Okay, seriously though, what is this current internet phenomenon? I really don't get it. And EVERYONE does it! Even my own mother! (YEAH, MENNOLY--I AM WATCHING YOU.) And I just don't get it!

This doesn't actually annoy me, but it DOES make ME "Ell Oh Ell" because... really?

"I walked the dog HAHAHAHAHAHA ISN'T THAT SO FUNNY?!"

I just don't get it, people. And here I thought I was an internet generation child.

Sigh.

I hope you all have a wonderful Labor Day. I'm off to the Renn Faire for mostly play, some work, and do have a great overall day. I hope you all have an equally wonderful day, whether it's with friends, family, or just relaxing on your own.

I am guilty of typing "LOL" a lot, but 9 times out of 10 when I type it I really am laughing. ;)

Sometimes its because I think something is funny.. or the way I wrote it is funny. Or sometimes, like in 'real life', its a nervous laughter. For example if I think something I wrote sounds silly or makes me look silly, I'll "lol" because I'm giving a nervous laugh... like "you are probably going to laugh at me, so here, I'll show I'm laughing too so it doesn't make me feel as stupid." or something.

This is funny but a sad truth.. We should let people know how we feel and not cover anything up. I am guilty of that

I don't even want to mention that again you have made me Laugh Out Loud. I love reading your blogs...and still never laughing at you, just at your humor. It is so refreshing and funny.

BTW.....you look AMAZING in your Renn dress, AWESOME!!!!!

I use it usually if I really am laughing out loud. Other times I use it as a sarcastic thing, and if I don't know how to respond to someone I somehow adopted lol for that too.... Gotta love friends and trends.

Ugh, I am right on board with you there. I'm pretty sure I'm not a hypocrite about this either. I don't use "lol" unless I am actually laughing out loud, and since that is pretty rare when the subject is just, like, walking the dog, you pretty much won't find "lol" in any of my blog entries.

Instead, I adopted the ha-system. Is it perfect? No. It still implies laughter. But this is how it goes for me. I'll add a "ha" if something is ironic or makes me smile a little bit (even just inside), and more commonly I'll add a "haha" if reading or typing something actually makes me smile or do that little quick-laugh-through-your-nose thing. From there, if things get progressively funnier and I start really laughing, like really laughing out loud, I just keep adding "ha"s to what I feel is the appropriate length. So while walking the dog might merit a "ha" (probably not though), telling you about how my cat is currently trying to fight a giant duck when they are on opposite sides of a sliding glass door and the duck doesn't seem to care at all about my cat (this is actually happening right now, btw), that might get a "hahahaha" because I am looking at this situation and audibly laughing.

More information than you were looking for? Probably. Sorry about that. Lol!

LOL - sorry I had too! But I agree - I am guilty of it as well. Something that needs to be thought about while I am writing my next blog after today's race! Have a great day!

I couldn't agree more! I always thought I was weird not using these strange punctuations but I'm just not the type to laugh out loud while I'm typing, I did however have a good chuckle at your post emoticon
