Back in the saddle

Sunday, September 02, 2012

Literally and figuratively speaking, I am back in the saddle. Yesterday, I went for a bike ride and it had been several months since my last one. It’s so easy some times to get derailed with fitness plans, life happens! The most important part is picking yourself up and starting again. That’s what I plan to do.

It felt great to be back on the bike. I really did miss it and I'm glad I decided to go for a ride. Although I had some set backs while on my ride, it was a success. At first it was a struggle to get in the first couple of miles. I thought it was because I hadn’t been on the bike for a while but later I figured out my front brake was rubbing against the wheel. Once I fixed that, it was smooth sailing until I collided with another rider on the trail. I was right behind her getting ready to pass when she decided to turn left with no warning. Luckily we just brushed against each other and we were both able to stay on the bike. I have a bruise on my arm but that’s all. I’m thankful that it wasn’t worse. I was a little shaken up after that but decided to continue. I was able to complete 20 miles! So happy with the mileage!!!

My goals?!?! For now, I’ll be riding solo but once I’m up to speed, there’s a few groups in town that I plan to join for rides. I’m excited about meeting new people and working on increasing my mileage and speed. I’m also planning to focus on strength training. I usually just do cardio! I want to try a different approach and see what results I get. I’m looking to tone and become a better cyclist, runner, triathlete.

Let’s see how long this motivation will last!? I really enjoy working out but often lack consistency. What helps you to keep going?

I know its hard getting moving after a break but each day you make it into the saddle is one more day closer to a lifetime habit. Good luck.
