Remembering Nickie

Saturday, September 01, 2012

It seems like yesterday when a very small puppy as big as my hand ran up my DH's leg for protection. He was sitting on the couch ,we were visiting my mom. we came all the way from north carolina for thanksgiving. my niece was living with mom and her kids were very actively chasing this little black puppy and throwing her. so she ran up DH's leg for protection. I was very sick that year and wasn't into having a puppy.but dh decided to take her back with us to N. carolina.she was so good on that trip, like it was meant to be.

she was a very independent dog, she has given us much pleasure over the 11 years we have had her. about 5 years ago she started to have pancreatis problems, and over the last 5 years she has gone several time to the vet. not only for pancreatis but has had several operations too.we did the best we could for her but this last time( this week) it was too much she would not eat or drink water. Her pancreatis shut down.

R I P Lil Nickie-----we will miss you

It is so hard to have an ill pet and then lose them. They do become a wonderful memory, one you will never forget.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

((((NighthawkLK)))) I am so sorry! It's so hard to make that final decision, but ya'll saved that puppy at a young age and you just saved her again, from pain and agony. You gave her the gift to let her go. I know your heart is aching. You are all in my prayers.

I am so sorry you lost Nickie. I know your loneliness and sorrow since I experienced it recently myself. Another dog could fill the hole, but never the place in your emoticon that Nickie possessed. May sweet memories keep your Friend close to you.. emoticon Jane

Oh, my heart hurts for you. My best friend lost her dog of 13 years this week too. The DH was holding him, and he said "I love you Rusty", and Rusty did the dog talk wa, wov, woo to him with his last breath. So very sorry for all those that lost a beloved companion this week.

I'm so sorry; it is really hard to loose a best friend. Pets certainly become "family" and dogs seem to have so many human qualities. It must be especially hard for having had her since she was just a puppy. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
