Much of August tanked from my usual expectations of exercise should look like. Haven't swum in about a month. Haven't biked except for getting the kiddo to school since my late July triathlon. No runs over 3 miles.
I started physical therapy to rehab my weak shoulder a few weeks ago. Slowly building things back together, that included a reinjury or tweaking of it this week which was not fun.
Physical exercise continues. Hiking has resurfaced as a good source of exercise. Running when it doesn't spaz my shoulder happens, just with low mileage.
Since exercise hasn't been as big an option for me, I focussed on nutrition. Got a VitaMix blender which would probably blend sneakers if I cut them into 3 inch chunks. Does a great job on pulverising my veggies and fruits into yummy smoothiness generally. Only had one smoothie fail so far. I usually make one large smoothie a day, enough to fill one very large glass and most of a spaghetti jar -- I'll drink the glassful immediately and tuck the spaghetti jar into the fridge to drink down its goodness later in the day. Usually one recipe equals out to 8 vegetable/fruit portions. Pretty good nutritional bang.
And my body is thankful for that nutrition. With me focusing on those smoothies, they've replaced other snacks I'd have during the day. And generally eating that well takes away my evening cravings. Since I'm working out less, I'm eating less, too. I lost 7 pounds in August. Definitely getting back on track. Downward scale movement is sweet.
September will be about getting the running back in gear. Got a half marathon first weekend of October which I'll walk or run as my body declares itself willing. I'll continue weekly with the physical therapist, and I need to find out from my physical therapist when I can start using the Y more for its yoga and strength training.
Bit by bit, putting me together!
