30 Blogs Hath September?

Saturday, September 01, 2012

TanyaP71 has challenged folks to blog 30 days on a set list of questions. www.sparkpeople.com/mypa

Being me, I thought about it and decided, "why not?" Here is the first blog topic:

"Your stats. Starting stats, current stats, goal stats. Are you currently trying to lose weight, gain weight, or maintain weight or something else? Do you have a goal for the month of September? "

First off, whenever I talk about starting stats, it all depends on WHICH start we're talking about, since I have been through this process many times over the decades. But to play it as straight as I can - this particular healthy initiative began on May 29th, 2009, when I weighed in at 198.6 on my home scale. At 5' 3", that's too much, by anybody's assessment.

I did not take tape measurements until a month later, on June 26th, and at that point, my waist was 37 inches... bust 43, hips 45. Sigh... with a month of progress, even.

At that time, I timidly set my goal down as 150, because I had to pick a number. (I was at a commercial weight loss center, they wanted a number.) But as I told them there, the real goal was not about a number on the scale. The real goal was to get back into the shape I was in when I did an informal triathlon with my siblings. That was August 2007, and I felt better than I had my whole life.

My current stats? Are you ready?

Weight, 7 day rolling average, as of today: 119.3 pounds.
Bust: 35
Waist: 27
Hips: 34.5

Current phase in the process? Maintenance. Don't need to lose more. My goals are not so much about the scale (they never were, really)... but to maintain the level of fitness to participate in the events that give me so much joy. Eye on the prize right now of a half marathon in November, busy building mileage.

Goals for September:
1. Don't injure myself.
2. Follow the fitness plan, but modify as the body's level of energy demands. I.e. LISTEN to the body.
3. One 5 mile race, Sept 9th.

I've been on and off the diet roller coaster since I was about 12. I was one of those "pudgy" little girls. I have recently taken my measurements and am too ashamed to post them here, but to date have only lost about 15 pounds. I am still logging food and exercise.
I do applaud you and all you have done! You are truly an inspiration, Barb!

Impressive stats, Barb!! Someday I hope to say again that I really don't think I need to lose any more. Right now I'm feeling ambivalent and just not sure if I do or not.

Great goals for September!! You can do it!!!

I don't think I can commit to that much writing and self-analysis, but I've been following your blog for quite a while and I think you come pretty close to my #12 on all four counts.

Woot! Another 1/2 in November! You rock.

Yes, it is a little different being in maintenance mode, but the basics still apply for me: proper nutrition, proper rest, proper exercise! HGUS

Awesome as usual! Interesting, I too weighed 198, no fractions for me, when I decided that was just too much and enough was enough. Basically, I have always enjoyed working out and aquafit and my elliptical were my choices in addition to lots of walking when ever my condition allowed me to. But missing in action was ST, and I joined Curves to get some of that and saw immediate results, dropping some weight and toning. That is when I entered their Biggest Loser contest and made the biggest change and difference in my life -learning to track and see the calories in my food. That was the turning point for sure. When I found Sparkpeople looking for an easier way to track then searching and manually adding everything up, the rest was history.
Nothing beats being able to physically do the things you want, it feels so good. I will never be able to run a race (the impact is too painful for my joints) but in short term classes and such, I can keep up and beat the youngest and healthiest of them! I do envy all the fun and competition you do with these races, but its an inspirational envy. If you can do your activity to the max, so can I ;)
Spark on!

hum...you just made me measure myself. I haven't done that in years and was pleasently surprised. Now remember, I have been working on my diet and health forever...like since I was 16 years old and I am now 60. well my hips are finally 36, my waist 24 and bust 32. but now that i am maintaining the weight loss I have lots of hanging skin. I am going to look into having the arm surgery so that I can finally wear sleeveless shirt. I feel like I deserve it since I finally am maintaining my weight.
Have a terrific week end.
Sallie

Excellent way to roll through the month, Barb! I may answer some of those questions from time to time when I'm looking for a subject to write about.
