Steps, steps, and more steps

Time to check in on my New Year's Resolution. It has turned out to have been a good choice: committing to averaging 10,000 steps a day has forced me to make a big change in my behavior and to be consistent about it over a long period of time.

At midnight on August 31st / September 1st I have walked over two and a half million steps (2,520,074). That's a daily average of 10,328 steps.

So far this year, I have walked 10,000 or more steps on exactly two thirds of all the days in the year. I am currently working on a streak of 16 days in a row over 10,000 and my longest streak this year was 27.

The most steps I walked in any single day was 28,283 steps one day while I was in India. The month with the highest daily average was July (15,113 steps/day).

Current plans are to maintain (and increase my average) until the end of the year and then make the same resolution next year.

So often it seems, folks get sidetracked by thinking harder work is what is necessary. I think consistency is so critical, because it crosses so many aspects, the physical and mental.

So in my book, your consistency makes you a champ.
