Wolf's Layer - A Crimson Heart
Written Jun 18 © Richard A Baker, All rights reserved
As the sun sets
and the colors start to fade.
There is something within me that begins to awake.
As the lights dimmer
and the black quilt is stretched over the sky.
My heart starts to simmer,
as now it is ceremoniously a good night,
so I begin to hunt and howl at the moonlight.
The temperature has dropped just a little,
but the humidity has risen a lot.
This is just the way I like it
as my body and lungs can deal with the shock.
There is a fog that has risen
and filled the air.
My nose has caught the scent though
of the unfortunate white hare.
The prey that I hunt, will not see or hear me coming,
til their fate is upon them
because I am already running.
As I finally catch them,
I tackle them down
and around their neck I open my jaw.
This hunt is a success
and accomplished with no flaw.
As I sink my teeth in,
their life has been sold.
I thank the Lord for helping me feed my household.
I know I am the bad guy,
in minds all around me.
But I live life by the ordinance
of taking care of my family.
If you will love me
and we watch each others' backs
then you will be kin
and become part of the pack.
