Ok, had a brush with a snake the other day... If you haven't read that one - see my previous blog. Well, yesterday my adventures with wildlife continue.....

I am walking my dog, Dutch. We are at the house and he is now on his own. I see him checking out the bushes, slowly, stalking them. I knew something was in there and I was afraid it might be a snake. Then wham! Dutch snatches something out of the bush and runs off!!! I tell him to drop it and he does. It was a little bird! A youthful goldfinch I think. The poor thing was stunned. He went to grab it again and I gave him a stern no, so he ran off to do something else. The girls run over to see what is going on. The little bird sits up and looks at us like what is going on and where am I???? He hops around a little and chirps at us. I get behind him and scoop him up and he immediately perches himself on my finger. I walk him to the bush and he hops in and gives me two chirps. I think the little guy is ok and I will keep the dog out of the bushes. I hope I didn't do the wrong thing by picking him up, but I was afraid to leave him stunned in the yard.

Ok, I know Springer Spaniels are supposed to flush out birds, but I didn't think they would snatch them and run off with them!

Good thing you were there to rescue the poor little bird. I guess your dog Dutch was just following his instincts.
Sounds like the finch was very grateful to have you watching over him.

Two chirps, i think he said Thank you :) You did a good thing, for a harmless bird , now im curious would you do the same if your dog had got what you thought a snake.

I think you did the right thing putting it in the bushes to give it protection from other predators.
