The Family Farm

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

My son is taking me out to look for the old family farm today. We have "maps" that indicate where it was and my son thinks that he found some of it's remains a few weeks ago so we'll be out in the woods/hills, hiking around and looking for it. I had not been very interested in the saga of the family farm until recently, but my sister's research has sparked an interest in it for me.

If you live in eastern Missouri, you may know the TNT story. Here's a link to a site that has some interesting information about it.

OMG, so very interesting and I have to say I can't believe how ignorant I am about Missouri history sometimes. My mom's family is from Cottleville and I'm going to send her that link to see if she remembers any of those names.

Thank you so much for sharing!

Sad story how I wish it wasn't true. I know my mother talks about the ammunitions plant that they build 20 miles from our house People that farms they took got jobs promised at the plant but then they had a big explosion. Wish we would learn from history more. Hope you find the family farm as I grew up one and realize what a way of life it is. emoticon

This Theodore Yahn fellow seems interesting. I wonder if he is responsible for our current bread addiction

This is actually pretty shocking! At first I was thinking TNT was the network, but now I see it means the dynamite.

This is a shameful part of our history, like interning Japanese Americans, some of whom were shipped here to Arkansas. THEY hadn't done anything wrong either.

I know it is popular for the Conservatives to be outraged by the thought of "government control & interference" but your article shows that it's HARDLY a new thing!

I'm sorry your family had to go through this. Thanks for sharing the website. I'll definitely pass it on to my husband who is a huge history guy.
