You read this right, my friends! Yesterday was the day to catch
all the chickens we have entered in the Open Class Exhibition
for the State Fair. As usual, it was hot and windy and quite a
sweaty affair. It took almost 2 1/2 hours to go through the
various barns and capture the one we had banded earlier. If
you thought chasing goats would have made a great video,
this would top that easily. I am so thankful I am flexible and
have long legs as I was over, under and around the roost in
the main barn. I stretched muscles in ways that defy any
description. We crated up the 75 entires, took a few minutes
off to pack DH's gear in the pickup and he was off into the
99 degree heat. Sadly, he called last night and said that
at least 8 of the chickens died in the 2 hour travel time.
One of the other exhibitors that just lives 5 miles from town
lost over 60 as the AC unit in his trailer burned out. We are
mildly disappointed but the weather is harsh and these
things do happen. One year when the children were younger,
and we were raising rabbits, the heat claimed 30+ in the transit.
After DH left, I still had chores to do and the garden goodies
needed to be harvested. This morning I am enjoying the peace
and quiet and doing mild stretches to loosen a few muscles
in my shoulders. I can deal with that.
Have a great day and thanks for stopping by. I am off to stretch
a little more and tackle another day. HUGS!
