13 Months to walk from Maine to Florida. I'm almost to St. Augustine beach

Saturday, August 25, 2012

I set this goal the end of last July after downloading the app MAPMYWALK. I was fascinated with the tracking and record keeping this app provided for me. I decided to take on a goal of walking the distance from my home in Maine to our vacation condo on St Augustine beach in Florida a distance of 1315 miles. As of today I'm 12.17 miles from that goal. I've been taking days off to rest my knees and that seems to have helped.

What a GREAT idea! How did you get into walking so far? How are you doing it? Can you send me some info on it?

George I'm walking for exercise. In 4 years when I retire I hope to walk a distance for a cause. Muscular Dystrophy, because I have a young friend who is afflicted with a muscular degenerative disorder and I'd like to walk for him. I hope my knees don't fail me though.

Walking is more useful to me now then when I was younger. Not so hard on the body versus running and such. Not like walking in the country on a dirt path. If I can't drive there, a walk on the sidewalk in my neighborhood is still good exercise.
Good luck on your pending accomplishment. I might have missed it. Are you walking for a cause or personal fitness or accomplishment? emoticon

I had thought about doing something similar but didn't realize that there was an app for that! I guess I will have to look for it.

Great job!
