Day 3

Saturday, August 25, 2012

Ok. So, I'm still in the game. I'm feeling tired today, but that just means I get to put that whole "theory" doctors put forth that the more you exercise, the more energy you will have. I haven't done my exercise yet, but I am definitely going to do it. I can't break my 2 day streak.

You know, one thing I wish I could find on here is a customizable menu plan for the week that I can generate a grocery list from and each menu would give me access to the applicable recipe and nutritional information. I've spent some time browsing through recipes that sound healthy and good to me, but it's finding a way to organize this information. I mean I know I can save recipes, but I really need to find a way to tie everything together. I confess I'm not totally confident in navigating all the resources available on this site. There could very well BE such a feature here. NOTE: Oh wow....I just figured out how to do the recipe/menu thing....THIS SITE IS SOOOOO COOL! I love it.

Another great feature would be to enter a favorite food and have recipes come up with that food as the main ingredient....whether it's for a side dish or a main dish or a dessert. You know how you get hungry for something, but you're looking for a new, healthy way to make it. AND a friend and I were talking about how cool it would be to make a list of all your favorite foods and have a healthy menu generated to incorporate all of those foods. I mean, obviously, you can't list your favorites as pizza, ice cream and chocolate and expect a healthy diet to come out of that. My biggest thing is that I don't like to have to spend a lot of time thinking about what to make, how to make it, what to buy at the grocery store.

Hmmmm...could that be a clue as to WHY I have a weight problem? I just mindlessly eat whatever I'm hungry for and don't realize or care how much and how many calories I'm actually consuming in a day. I know...I know. I really DO have to pay attention to this stuff and make those healthy decisions so that I have the know-how. I think the solution is -- I need a personal chef. Yeah...right. Back to reality. I just need to find the most time-efficient way to manage my diet.

So....goal for the week is develop a plan/menu that doesn't require a lot of effort/time, but that keeps me on track.

I think part of this whole journaling thing is exploring me -- Find out what works for me and what doesn't. Find out how I got to this point and how to get to where I really want to be. I've spent my life taking care of others and now I've got to readjust my thinking to how to take care of me.

I have definitely invested a lot of time today (since I figured out how to navigate this food tracker thing), getting daily menus for the week and creating a grocery list. I think my brain hurts now. Time to enjoy the REST of my weekend. emoticon
